Let's delve deeper into what has been stopping us from putting ourselves out here...
The Emotional Psychology of Being Seen in Your Creative or Wellbeing Business
"Please see my business, but don't look at me!"
If you’ve ever whispered that sentence to yourself before hitting “post,” welcome to the club.
I used to live there too.
For years, I hid behind my work - my designs, my netwalks, my events - anything that meant I didn’t have to put myself front and centre. I’d pour my heart into every detail, but when it came to sharing it with the world? I’d freeze.
My mind would spiral with thoughts like-
“What if they think I’m showing off?”
“What if I say the wrong thing?”
“What if they judge me?”
“Maybe I’ll just wait until it’s perfect…”
Spoiler- that “perfect” moment never arrived.
And that waiting quietly dimmed both my business and my confidence, truly.
Here’s the thing - visibility isn’t just a marketing challenge.
It’s a nervous system challenge.
Your brain is wired for safety, not visibility.
When you put yourself out there - especially in a personal, creative, or wellbeing business - your body interprets it as risk.
It triggers the same stress response as standing on a stage with a spotlight in your eyes.
Heart racing. Thoughts spinning. Doubt creeping in.
It’s not a lack of confidence - it’s your amygdala doing its job.
It’s saying-
“If I’m visible, I might be rejected. Better stay small.”
But here’s the truth-
You’re not in danger. You’re just being seen.
And once your body learns that being visible is safe, the fear begins to fade.
The first time I went live on social media, I had notes, lighting, and a lukewarm cup of tea (that I never drank).
The second that little box appeared - “You’re live!” - my mind went completely blank.
I blinked like a rabbit in headlights and felt my heart beating in my throat.
I was so sure everyone could see my nerves.
But they couldn’t. They saw someone showing up - human, honest, real.
A few kind souls even commented, “So lovely to hear your voice.”
That was my turning point.
I realised-
It’s not confidence first, visibility later.
It’s visibility first, confidence follows.
Every imperfect moment built self-trust. Every post calmed my nervous system a little more.
To your brain, visibility = exposure.
It’s an ancient survival instinct: “If they don’t accept me, I’m out of the tribe.”
Even though it’s 2025 and we’re just posting on Instagram, your body hasn’t had that update yet.
When you scroll and see others who seem more polished or successful, your subconscious says,
“They’re doing better - maybe I shouldn’t try.”
That’s your dopamine system at work - rewarding validation and punishing silence.
But their success isn’t your failure. It’s evidence that there’s space for you too.
For creatives and wellbeing founders, your work is you.
So when you post something personal and hear nothing back, it stings.
But silence doesn’t mean rejection - it means people are quietly absorbing what you’ve shared.
The voice that whispers, “Who am I to post this?” often comes from much earlier in life.
Maybe you were told to stay quiet, to not draw attention, or to “tone it down.” I definitely had this growing up!
Visibility now becomes a form of healing - showing that younger version of you that it’s safe to take up space.
Social media overstimulates your senses.
The constant scrolling, comparing, and feedback can leave you mentally and emotionally drained.
That “post-performance crash” you feel afterwards? Totally normal.
It’s your adrenaline dipping after a surge of exposure.

Visibility isn’t about performing. Even though our brains think it is!
It’s about connecting.
It’s the bridge between your purpose and the people who need it.
The way you show up is a mirror of how you feel inside - so it starts with nervous system kindness and self-compassion, not hustle.
Here’s how to start shifting gently from fear to flow:-
Breathe. Drop your shoulders. Remind yourself:
“It’s safe to share what matters.”
You’re not showing off - you’re showing up.
Your message might be exactly what someone needs to hear today.
Each post is practice. Each story is exposure therapy for your nervous system.
Confidence grows with repetition, not readiness.
Unfollow accounts that drain you.
Mute what triggers comparison.
Boundaries are part of wellbeing - even digital ones.
Whenever fear rises, anchor back to your purpose:
“I’m not posting for likes. I’m posting for the woman who needs this today.”
You don’t need to be louder.
You don’t need perfect lighting or daily Reels.
You just need to be present - in your way, at your pace.
Because visibility isn’t shouting into the void.
It’s whispering something real into the right hearts.
The moment you stop trying to “do social media right”
And start doing it in alignment with your energy, story, and purpose,
it becomes less of a chore and more of a practice.
A practice in courage.
A practice in connection.
A practice in self-trust. 🌿
